Experts Say Future Surveillance Will “Predict” Crime

Is Crime Prevention the future of surveillance?

Police technology experts state that surveillance and data collection will be an integral part in crime prevention.

“This is the future of policing,” says Christopher Schneider, an associate professor of sociology at Brandon University in Manitoba. Moving forward, police authority will use a combination of collecting data online, social media, and looking at past crimes to predict and prevent future laws from being broken.

“Policing as an apparatus is going to be much more mediated, and it’s going to be much more community-oriented than it currently is, through the Internet, through social media,” says Schneider.
