Foscam Software: Get the Most from your Foscam IP Camera

Foscam is a leading manufacturer of IP cameras. Their cameras are good quality, very well priced and are popular for consumers and small businesses. This post will recap what software is available to help you get the most out of your Foscam IP camera.

(1) Software from Foscam. The software CD provided with the camera is fairly limited. They offer a network setup utility that’s pretty bare bones — you might recognize the “user interface” below. It basically helps you find the device on your network, and from there you can access their web-based configuration page to setup motion detection, wireless, and a few other options.

(2) Live Viewer Apps. Everyone wants mobility and to view their cameras from anywhere. Due to Foscam’s popularity, there are a lot of free (and almost free) viewer apps. Many of them are quite nice but they all essentially do the same thing: they connect your mobile device to your camera’s IP address and allow you see a live video feed.

(3) Cloud Services. If you want to go beyond the basic features provided by the camera and a live video on your iPhone or Android, you’ll want to think about a cloud service. This will provide cloud storage of recorded events, mobile apps for viewing live video AND recorded events, a full-featured web app, email alerts and more.
