The Apple Homekit is Here, and This is What it Can Do

Apple wants HomeKit to give your smart accessories the capability of communicating with one another. With Homekit, you can control them with one interface, as well as allowing you to program them to perform synchronized actions.

Right now you need to control each smart accessory individually. With Homekit, you can do some nifty stuff like set your lights to turn on as soon as you get home, have your bathroom heater turn on before you get out of bed, and use a motion sensor to turn on your kitchen lights when you walk in.

Apple wants your smart accessories to be able to talk to each other, with the option of controlling them all with voice commands using Siri. You can set up your home products to turn on or off automatically based on other triggers.

As the time of this writing, Homekit works with the iPhone, iPad, running iOS 8.1 or later.
